|opis:||Cellusin® is a novel wound dressing composed of sericin, a protein extracted from silk cocoon, together with an extract from skin of tropical fruit, mangosteen. The dressing is fabricated as three-dimension spongy patch with the thickness of sericin mass that can absorb wound exudates such as blood, serum and pus. Based on previous studies, sericin possesses effective wound healing properties owing to its abilities to activate collagen production in subcutaneous fibroblasts and to suppress activity of pro-inflammatory cytokines found in the affected tissue. Sericin also demonstrates moisture holding property that creates moist environment optimum for the healing process. Additionally, porosity of the spongy sericin scaffold allows air penetration that accelerates the healing. Mangosteen skin extract contained in the dressing has proven to be a safe and effective disinfectant that maintains aseptic condition of the wound, and thus further facilitates healing. Finally, the dressing is non-adhesive.
Efficacy & Safety
Following long term clinical studies, Cellusin ® has been evaluated for its safety and efficacy in treatment of deep and hard-to-heal wounds. The studies were performed in accordance with ISO 10993 protocol. Application of Cellusin ® on second degree wounds demonstrates the increase of healing rate by at least 30 % in comparison with generic dressings used in standard treatment and no irritation was found.
Production of Cellusin ® is considered as a clean and green process that creates remarkable value adding to the otherwise would be agricultural wastes. Naturally, this creates extra income for the farmers in both cases.
Cellusin ® has received several prices and awards internationally, which include Grand Prize from Seoul International Invention Fair in 2013, Special Award from Taiwan Invention Association in 2013 and silver medal from 42nd International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in 2014. Domestically, this product won the Distinguished Invention Award in Pharmacy and Chemistry from The National Research Council of Thailand in 2014, together with the Citation for Excellent Science Project by The Secretariat of Science Commission of the Senate of Thailand.
