|opis:||For solving the world energy problems and the bad effects of conventional energy on environment, great attention all over the world is paid towards the use of renewable energy sources. Special interest is paid towards wind energy because of its competition. Savonius wind turbine is a vertical axis wind turbine which has lower efficiency than the horizontal axis wind turbine. However, this turbine is characterized as cheaper, simpler in construction and low speed turbine. In addition, Savonius turbine is also suitable for generating mechanical energy for remote and non - grid areas in many countries. Using Savonius turbine can address a crucial issue: the shortage of electricity. This means that Savonius turbine can provide essensial demand for households electricity (lighting, pumping water, etc.) in many remote areas as well as utilizing thoroughly the wind power at low wind speed.
In this work, a new curved blade with two tangential continuous arcs with different ratios was created in order to push the central pressure far away from the center to increase the torque as well as the mechanical force. As a result, this change also rise up the power coefficient - the most important parameter to assess the development of a turbine. In order to find the optimal blade, we tested 6 samples blades by experiment process: the basic blade and 5 improved blades with ratios from 0.2 to 0.6. After that, we performed simulation process to assure the results from the experiment. It was found that, the improved blade with ratio of 0.5 has the highest power coefficient of 24% at 5 m/s, 9% higher than the basic blade, which is 15% at 7 m/s.
